Travel Insurance

Necessity of travel insurance

Travel insurance is very much necessary in case you travel to other countries or travel overseas. This is because there are chances of you meeting an accident or you could also fall ill. Shelling out expenses in a foreign country can prove to be expensive. You may also lose your luggage, your money might get stolen and your travel maybe cancelled because of your illness. As a result travel insurance is necessary in case you are traveling out of UK to cover the expenses and loses for the risks mentioned above. Hence if you are exposed to any of the risks mentioned above during your travel then the costs incurred to you may run in hundreds of thousands of British pounds.

Selecting your policy

Before selecting a particular travel policy, it is very essential to clarify with the insurance company what costs or charge the policy covers. You should make sure that your travel insurance policy provides cover during your stay out of the country. Check out any special points for unusual circumstances like in case you are going to take part in some hazardous activities out of the country. There are special policies for such cases and hence it is necessary to mention any special details of your trip to the officer before selecting the policy. Also let the insurance company known in case you are suffering from any medical conditions or disorders. When you travel abroad you must take the policy with you along with you with full contact details of the insurance company. In case you fall in trouble abroad you can at least call the insurance company immediately.

What does travel insurance cover?

Travel insurance normally covers all expenses and charges of treatment provided to the traveler in the foreign country. In case of lose of baggage or theft of money the travel insurance company will compensate the traveler as per the condition of the policy. Most of the health insurance policies in the UK cover charges for treatments even out of the UK. In case a particular policy does not have a clause of reimbursing for expenses outside the UK, then it is necessary that you buy yourself a travel insurance policy.

Limitations of travel insurance policy

In many cases, a travel insurance policy is not required. This is when your health insurance policy covers all expenses for abroad also. However in case your health insurance policy does not cover the costs and charges for travel abroad, then it is necessary to get yourself the appropriate travel insurance. Most of the travel insurance companies offer a lot of promises to cover your medical expenses abroad, but they rarely fulfill their promises. Hence it is very much necessary that you should read all the terms and conditions of the policy before signing on the agreement. Most of the travel insurance companies have good relationships only with the emergency serviced providers in the foreign country. However majority of them have not many relationships with the hospitals and so end up stating more in the brochure than they can deliver.
